Plans for the shoot -
My Plan for Shoot 1 is to display the everyday life of a typical boy through the everyday activities that are done. I plan to shoot with Jordan, by going to his house and taking images of him in his everyday life. This will include activities such as exercise, basketball, gaming and football which are typical of his daily life.
What I hope to achieve -
I hope to achieve in Shoot 1 a good collection of photographs that display the everyday life of a 17 year old boy. I hope that these photographs not only show the activity itself but the small details of it, for example close images of hand movements and focus on the objects included not just the active part.
What I actually achieved -
Below are two images from Shoot 1 'A Typical Boys Day'. These, in my opinion, are the best two images from the shoot that correctly display what I wanted them to and fit nicely into what I wanted to achieve.
This is the first of my two best images, as it shows that I followed what my plan was for the shoot and the outcome is aesthetically pleasing. As I mentioned in my 'plan for the shoot' section one of the daily activities I wanted to take photos of was gaming as its a very typical boy's thing to do. Therefore the above image displays this activity, it shows Jordan in his room playing his PC game as he would in everyday life. I like the outcome of this image because I think the composition is very good, Jordan and the computer screen are central in the photo with white, blank space either side which I think makes the colours on the game and his darker silhouette even more striking. Underneath the image I have included the camera settings that were used to take this photograph. The setting where I took the image was quite dark because the curtains had to be drawn in order to prevent glare from the sun on the screen. Therefore I used an ISO3200 and Shutter Speed of 1/200sec to allow enough light into the camera lens so the photo had a good exposure. I also used an F/4.5 so that I could gain a lot more focus on Jordan and the screen rather than having a wide depth of field that would have given the same central effect.
This is my other best image from Shoot 1, showing Jordan holding a weight that he uses to exercise, again a big part of his everyday life. This image really links into what I outlined for the 'What I hope to achieve' section whereby I talked about having close-up images that show minor details of everyday life. I like this style of image because I think it breaks up the shoot which without the focused, close images, would be overcome with action and become very complicated. This particular image focuses on the detail of the weight that Jordan is holding, the close nature of the photo meant that I could pick up the writing on the end of the weight which from further away definitely wouldn't have been seen. The camera settings I used for this photograph were similar to the ones in the previous image however the shutter speed was slightly slower at 1/125sec. The reason I used F/4.5 again was because I needed a very shallow depth of field to pick up the detail that I wanted to in this image. This worked well as the foreground is in extremely sharp focus whereas the background is very blurred giving the perspective of lots of space behind Jordan. I like the composition of this image with the weight to the right of the photograph acting as a leading line into the rest of the image. I think that this draws the viewers eyes deeper into the photograph and gets that to focus on the shapes and gradual blur.
What I am going to do next -
For my next shoot I want to show the opposite of this by doing 'A Typical Girls Day' this will give my two shoots contrast and allow me to link them. It will also show the divide between a teenage boy and girl who have very different everyday lives. Although I got some good outcomes from this shoot I don't believe that this reflects the style of photography that I usually show. It doesn't have enough interesting perspectives or close details that I had in my preparatory shoots. Therefore for my final shoot I am going to include this as much as I can to portray the best of my ability when taking photographs.
